On Friday, Oct. 3, I officially retired from Baylor, where I've worked for the past 10 years. However, I'm not retiring to sit and watch soaps and eat bon bons and babysit my granddaughter (now THAT part would be nice!). I have loved working at Baylor School of Social Work, so this was a hard decision. But, an offer from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Waco was just too good to ignore. I'll start on the 14th, and I'm excited, nervous, everything all rolled together. It's a chance to work with our veterans, who have fought for our country, given up much and are still working to cope with memories that those who haven't been there can hardly imagine.
But back to Oct 3: the School of Social Work gave me an amazing last day! I knew they were planning a lunch, but i thought it was pot luck like we usually do--so I made salsa! I was a little shocked to find out it was a catered lunch of good ol' Texas barbecue--VERY good! I was overwhelmed with it all, by the words of affirmation, friendship, and prayers. I have been so blessed to work with everyone there.
Some of my co-workers and recruit team....
The team sang a song for me!
