THE NORTHERN ANNUAL PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST
What began as a great excuse to get together in 2006 has become an annual (and much anticipated) family time to gather, eat, laugh, and try to carve or create the winning pumpkin. We've tried a few different things, such as trying to find unbiased neighbors come over to judge the pumpkins but this year we will try voting, but we can't form alliances or vote for our own.
Here is the winner from our first year:

Created by Robin Northern and Josh Cohagen (they married in 2008)
Then we got a little more prop-happy and creative for 2007:

And here was the winner:

I think this was Blake and daughter Chelsey's effort, right?
Then back to our house again for 2008. Notice the big black bug, the alien, the gray lady, the puking pumpkin, the latte pumpkin, and the cannibal pumpkin.

And the winner was:
Good job, Chris!
Then back to Chris and Blake's for 2009. From left to right see: Cowboy Pumpkin, Pumpkin Vase, Phantom of the Opera Pumpkin, Cooler Pumpkin, Pumpkin on Wheels, and Dear IRS Pumpkin.

And the winner was:
Created by Amanda Nye and Scott Cunningham (who married in 2010)
Blake and Chris hosted again in 2010. We added a few more folks this year, and Rylan joined us this year too--his first time!
From L to R: Jamaican Pumpkin, ? Ranger Pumpkin, Cinderella Pumpkin, ?, Shadowbox Pumpkin, Bedazzled Pumpkin, Mummified Pumpkin, ? (will add later).

And the winner was:

The Jamaican--good work, Larry!
So now we are getting ready, planning and scheming for some good food and carving at our house this year. We keep thinking the Trib would love to share these in the paper, but they haven't been interested yet...maybe one year!
